> Black Friday is on 27 November this year, and the run-up to Christmas starts straight after. A few weeks of preparation now makes the busiest time of year far less frantic.

Black Friday falls on 27 November this year, with Cyber Monday on 30 November, and for many businesses the Christmas rush runs straight on from there. Whether or not you run a Black Friday offer, your customers will be searching, comparing and buying more over the next seven weeks than at any other time of year. The businesses that do well are usually the ones that prepared in early November, not the ones that improvised in the middle of it.

## Decide what you are offering, and when

You do not have to discount. Plenty of businesses do better with a gift voucher, a bundle, free delivery over a certain spend, or simply a clear "order by" date. What matters is deciding now, writing it down, and knowing exactly when it starts and ends.

If you do run an offer, keep it simple. "20% off everything until Monday" is easier to act on than a grid of conditions.

## Get the website ready

- Put your Christmas information somewhere obvious: opening hours over the holidays, last order or booking dates, delivery cut-offs.
- Check every form and checkout works, on a phone, from start to finish. Do it yourself rather than assuming.
- Make sure the site can cope with more visitors. If it struggled last year, talk to whoever looks after it now, not in December.
- If you sell gift vouchers, make them easy to find from the homepage.

## Update your Google Business Profile

Add your holiday opening hours as special hours, so Google shows the right times rather than your usual ones. Post your offer or your Christmas dates as an update. Add a few recent photos. People searching "near me" in December are often ready to buy that day.

## Plan your posts and emails in advance

Write your social posts and emails now, while you have time to think. A simple plan might be: an early announcement, a reminder when the offer starts, a "last chance" on the final day, and then your Christmas dates. Scheduling them ahead means they still go out when you are run off your feet.

## Think about after Christmas too

The people who buy from you for the first time over the next few weeks are the easiest customers to win back in January. Make sure you capture their details properly, with their permission, and have a reason to get in touch in the new year.
